Dream IT: Every Student Has A Story
A Technology Based Grant Proposal for Transformative Learning

Picture
This  project is a grant proposal to acquire and integrate technology to allow students to create a multimedia story of understanding. Using the TPACK model of technology, pedagogy and content, my Dream IT project proposes using various technologies to engage students  to explore, create and share their unique learning story.

Julie Howe's Personal Portfolio

Picture
One may wonder about the domain address of teachhowe.com. It comes from the inspiration of my students. It all started with a student asking in a rather loud voice,
"Mrs. Howe, how do I do this?". Just a split second later, another student in the classroom said, she will "Teachhowe".

Understanding Understanding

Picture
Students come to class with a large number of entrenched, well-developed naive conceptions and knowledge structures. These structures often interfere with what they are taught in school. In this project, each group needed to select a certain topic and document student understandings (or misconceptions). (MAET Summer 2010)With this objective in mind, the KA Techies (Tasty Tongue Wiki ) chose to put a twist with our understanding or interpretation of the the project goal. We focused our research on the educational myth that the tongue has a "map" of taste sensors. A misconception that is in textbooks and has been taught in school. From our research, we created a video of interviews and animated resources and a web page of the relevant research, a statement of our research questions, the video, and a summary of our findings. A very tasteful project indeed!

Behaviorism: Electrocity
Chaining and Positive and Negative Punishments

Project: Our group created a short presentation using JING screencasting software and Windows Movie Maker to demonstrate how ideas of behaviorism are illustrated in the online educational game Electrocity. Our focus was chaining and positive and negative punishments.

Physics Project: Balls

Project: Create a video demonstrating when two different sized balls will hit the ground when dropped and where will a ball drop while standing, walking and running. This video was created to illustrate educational myths and misunderstandings. Which ball will hit the ground first? The large basketball or the golf ball? Watch the video and find out for yourself.
